Krassen Nedeltchev was born in the city of Varna, the gem of the bulgarian Black Sea coast. He graduated from the Medical School in Varna in 1991 and started his neurology training at the University Hospital of Varna, Bulgaria. He obtained a board certification in Neurology in 1995. In 1999, Dr. Nedeltchev was granted a fellowship in cerebrovascular diseases at the University Clinic of Neurology at Inselspital, Bern. Later on, he accomplished 2 years of training in diagnostic neuroradiology. In 2005, Dr. Nedeltchev joined the staff of the University Clinic of Neurology in Bern as an attending physician. After obtaining the Venia docendi from the University of Bern in 2007, Krassen Nedeltchev took over the position of chairman of neurology at the Triemli Hospital in Zurich. Currently, Prof. Nedeltchev is chairman of the Neurology Department and director of the Stroke Center at the Cantonal Hospital of Aarau, Switzerland. He is author or co-author of 144 Pubmed-listed scientitific papers on stroke thrombolysis, cervical artery dissection, MR-imaging of the carotid atherosclerotic plaque, secondary prevention of PFO-related stroke, ischemic stroke in young patients and children, vasomotor reactivity in migraine with aura, etc. Dr. Nedeltchev is the founder and principal investigator of the International PFO Consortium, a collaboration of 19 stroke centers in 8 countries on 2 continents. He is vice president of the Swiss Stroke Society and fellow of the European Stroke Organisation.
